The principle behind exfoliating is to remove dead skin cells hovering over your skin’s surface, and to unclog pores from dirt and grime, remaining make-up and excess oil. The aim of the game is to encourage your skin to replenish – to help give it a clearer complexion.

Most of us are used to exfoliating in the summer months but seem to drop off our exfoliation routine in winter.

Did you know it’s just as important to exfoliate in winter as it is in summer?

Here’s why...

1. Skin cells dehydrate faster in winter because of the cold air, and also because of the dry air inside caused by indoor heating.

2. Humidity levels drop considerably in winter, which causes your skin to dry out because there is less moisture in the air.

3. If you are prone to acne breakouts, exfoliating your dead skin cells will help decrease this by clearing the way for new, healthy skin cells to surface which give us our radiance.

4. Dry skin causes flakiness and tightness and is dull looking, making your skin age faster and therefore become more prone to wrinkles.

5. By exfoliating, you increase the efficiency of your moisturiser – your moisturiser gets into your skin and is absorbed best when there are no dead skins cells in its way.

The exfoliation rules – how often?

The truth is, there are no hard and fast rules, it depends on your skin type, but here is our guide:

Face exfoliation: Only once a week, or at the very most three times a week, depending on the dryness of your skin. For best results try our Regenerative Facial Polish – Finely crushed Argan shells and Jojoba beads gently exfoliate sensitive skin, removing dirt and impurities to help reveal smoother and refreshed looking skin. Organic Aloe Vera, Sweet Almond Oil and Organic Oat Meal Extract are enriched with moisturising and conditioning properties, to help improve skin tone and elasticity.

Body exfoliation: Two or three times a week, or less if your skin is really sensitive. For best results try our Detox Body Exfoliator – A stimulating and detoxifying formula which helps increase circulation and remove impurities from the skin. Pumice and Walnut Shell help smooth and buff skin to perfection, for a bright and glowing appearance.
